Upgraded to Wordpress 2.2
Yes. I have been like a Stone Age man, still using Wordpress 2.1.2 Or is that slight exaggeration? Anyway, the glad news is, I am posting this from Wordpress 2.2!
But the upgrading wasn’t exactly a breeze. I followed the official Wordpress Codex instructions. First, it said to :
- Backup my databases : That was fairly easy, and I downloaded an unzipped, zipped, and a gzipped package.
- Backup all the files in the Wordpress directory, and the .htaccess and other important files. - This was a bit more difficult, considering that I have a slow internet connection and downloading it took some time.
- Delete all the files, except some imp. files - This was almost the most easiest part. Just click, and hit delete?
- Upload the new files. - This was where it started to go wrong. My FTP program suddenly decided to stop working. I tried, deleted, tried, deleted, tried… Finally, it worked! I successfull uploaded all the required files.
- The last step was loading the Upgrade file on the browser. I got a 404 the first time, then saw that I had forgot to add wp-admin between “wordpress” and “upgrade.php”
I got some problems, that doesn’t mean that you may, too. Upgrade, it is worth it.
Happy Wordpress-upgrading!
I’m curious, what kinds of advantages are there to the upgrade? Are there any major differences between 2.1.2 and 2.2, or are more widgets just available the newer a version you have?
Thanks for visiting the site, oznob43. Yes, I don’t see any particular change, except that the preview of the post under the page is gone, replaced by a preview button, and also a new handy tool. You can drag and drop widgets into the sidebar.
I like waiting a week or so after an update, that way I can see if there’s any reported bugs or anything.
Now I need to upgrade. Maybe I’ll learn from your mistake and not have any problems upgrading. :p
I certainly don’t think there are any major bugs. Hopefully, you will be able to upgrade easily.
Good luck!
